Affordable living is good quality homes for rent, for people in the greatest need. Our affordable living properties range from small studio apartments to large family houses and from city centres to more rural locations. All are built and maintained to high standards and are allocated via a points based system. Rents are below the average market level and aimed at people with a housing need on lower incomes.
To apply you must complete a housing application form so that we can assess your housing need. Please contact us on 01332 346477 or e-mail info@derwentliving.com to request a copy.
When allocating properties we will consider applications from:
We operate a points based system for all applicants who apply directly to us for housing and customers requesting transfers. This means that priority is given to applicants who are in the greatest housing need.
In some areas many more people apply to us for housing than we have homes for. By giving points relating to your circumstances we are able to decide who is in the greatest housing need and who we will offer a home to first.
Homes are normally offered according to your needs. Below is a guide:
Single person – studio/ 1 bedroom apartment
Couple – 1 or 2 bedroom apartment or house
Two adults - 1 or 2 bedroom apartment or house
Couple or single parent with one child – 2 bedroom apartment or house
Couple or single parent with two children – 2 or 3 bedroom apartment or house
Couple or single parent with three children – 3 or 4 bedroom house
Couple or single parent with four children – 3 or 4 bedroom house
Couple or single parent with five children – 4 bedroom house
In some cases we may be able to offer larger homes than listed here, depending on your needs and the availability of such homes.
Unfortunately acceptance onto the waiting list does not mean that we will be able to offer you a home quickly. This is because we do not know when vacancies will arise and there may be people who have higher priority that you for a particular area, and a higher number of points.
We will contact you when a suitable property becomes available and you are the person with the highest priority.
We would also recommend that you contact your local council’s Housing Advice Centre or the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for details of other landlords, who you could apply to for housing in the areas of your choice.
Unfortunately we do not provide emergency accommodation. If you are in need of emergency accommodation you should contact your local council who will be able to provide you with a list.
