12 easy steps to owning your own home | Moving up or moving on | About your easy living home |
Our commitment to you
A home of your own
easy living offers all the benefits of home ownership, which includes the independence associated with buying. You will live in your home as an ‘owneroccupier’ and will be given a lease that proves you own a share of the property. This also explains Derwent Living’s responsibilities and your own. You will be free to decorate the property as you wish, and will also be responsible for its maintenance and repair. If you buy an easy living apartment, it is likely that Derwent Living will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs to the outside of the building and any communal areas. However, your rent will include a monthly service charge for providing these services. Please ask our easy living sales team for details of what this charge is likely to be on your chosen home.
The right finish
Many easy living properties are brand new; they have the benefit of NHBC (the National House-Building Council) cover and are built to exacting standards – this includes meeting the NHBC’s consistent approach to finishes. We would advise that you check your property carefully when you move in to ensure that you are happy with the finish, as well as the fixtures and fittings.Normally you will have 7 days to report any issues after moving in, Derwent Living will also confirm the ‘defect period’ on the property (this sometimes differs on older properties) – this guarantees the main structure, for example, for a given period of time. You will, of course, be given a full information pack about the NHBC standards and any defect period when you complete your home purchase.
