Derwent Living has kicked off the New Year with a donation to a local football team to fund a new strip.

The Derby-based housing provider donated £430 to the team from Beeston in Nottingham, to buy a new kit. The money was given from the Brighter Communities fund, which was set up by Derwent Living to support projects and initiatives that benefit the communities where its customers live.

Carol Bartle, a Derwent Living resident and manager of the team says: “We are really pleased that Derwent Living has supported the team in paying for our new strip. We have been running for about four years now and have always had a sponsor. This year we didn’t and that’s when I heard about the Brighter Communities Fund.

“I applied for funding as I think the team is really helping local children to mix in the community and to keep them off the streets and I know that this is something that Derwent Living also thinks is important.  We try to get as many kids involved as possible and we belong to the Notts FA Youth League. Our new kits look great and we are looking forward to showing them off on the pitch.”

Christine Smith, community regeneration officer at Derwent Living says: “When we received the application from Carol, we thought the football team was a worthy cause as it encourages children to be part of the local community and also gives them something to do in their spare time. This, in turn, goes some way to reducing anti-social behaviour. We hope they enjoy their new kits and wish them luck for their next game.”

Peter McCormack, chief executive of Derwent Living says: “As an organisation we want to help to improve the lives of not only our customers, but of people generally in the local community. By making this investment in these worthwhile causes, we are helping to build thriving communities and putting back into those who we serve.”
