Ping pong champions visit Forest Court

Date: 14 March 2005

For one moment I felt as though 70 students from Forest Ct were backing me to over throw one of Britain's best Table Tennis players as I was nominated to become the latest challenger of the evening. However the reality was that they just wanted to see me embarrassed, as the current Commonwealth Gold Medallist Alex Perry took me apart 11-1 (no before you ask the 1 I scored was not down to any skill on my part!)

Oh well apart from that the evening went without a hitch. About 70 of the 125 students at Forest Ct turned up and enjoyed some food and drink before being treated to a real display of table tennis as Alex and his wife Nicola (former British no 1 for 5 years) turned on the style with some showmanship and trick shots through the legs!

Alex then challenged a number of students of whom many can actually play (unlike some) before giving a short question and answer session and showing off his Gold medal.

Throughout the evening Alex and Nicola were inundated with autographs and photo requests which left David, Karen, Ellie and myself to have a quick sample of the food which someone, not to mention any names (Karen) tried to convince the Chinese Students that she had spent all afternoon cooking for them. While a few other students came over to Ellie and was amazed that she could speak Chinese only to be told it was Ilkeston, however they continued by saying that it sounded very Chinese!

A great time was had by all, but don't worry I won't be leaving to take up my new career as a professional table tennis player just yet!

If you would like to have a say in future events at any of our schemes please contact one of your student reps who will try and help.
