Work starts at 609 bed student accommodation

Date: 27 June 2005

Work has started on site in Lower Loveday Street, Birmingham on a large-scale student development which will be home to more than 600 students.

The £20m development for Derwent Living is at the forefront of regeneration in the city's Gun Quarter. Phase one of the development, which overlooks the canal side, will be ready in September 2006.

Derwent Living Business Development Director Carl Larter said: "We see this scheme as a catalyst for the regeneration of Birmingham's important Gun Quarter. This development is an exciting project for Derwent Living as it moves out of the East Midlands and into the Birmingham area.

"This part of the city has not seen any major redevelopment as yet, but this student accommodation will form a major focal point of this area of the city."
