Try before you buy is Derwent Living’s new initiative, allowing people to buy one of its properties after renting for up to three years. It’s a great scheme for people who want to get on the property ladder but can’t quite afford it in the current economic climate.
Try before you buy is designed for people who want to buy a property – and gives them the chance to pay discounted rent for three years, allowing them to save up for a deposit. When they are ready, then can then buy their home through Derwent Living’s part-buy, part-rent scheme called Easy Living.

To make things even easier, Derwent Living matches a householder’s deposit up to five per cent of the value of the share they buy in their home.
One person who has started Try before you buy is full-time carer Joy Towriess – who says she feels “safe and secure” now she is signed up to the scheme.
Joy moved into her two-bedroom apartment in Byron Wood, Hucknall this year – and opted to rent, and later buy the property when she is able.
“I have always owned my own houses and I want the security of having my own property,” says Joy.
“The property was fully decorated when I moved in. It was a blank canvas for me to stamp my personality on. I have added some of my own fittings like curtains and things like that.
“Even if I manage to buy 25% of the property, I will feel more secure when I am on the property ladder. I really like it here and want to stay.”
