The Dolly Smith Fund is available to residents living in our retirement living schemes, and can be used to provide activities, initiatives or buy equipment to help to tackle social isolation and bring communities together.
Recent projects that have received funding include:
Stirling Court, Chesterfield
Residents at Stirling Court received funding for chair based exercise classes and equipment. Bringing the activity to their communal lounge means a greater number of residents can get involved in keeping active, promoting benefits to their physical and mental health and providing a weekly activity where residents can socialise as well.
Beckitt Close, Alvaston, Derby
When Derwent living refurbished the communal lounge it became a real hub of activity with many more residents wanting to get together. This resulted in a need for additional furniture and equipment to accommodate the increase in popularity of the lounge. The Dolly Smith Fund was happy to provide a grant to buy additional seating and a hot water dispenser to keep the tea and coffee flowing!
Carsington & Wessington Mews, Allestree, Derby
After having successfully hosted various outdoor activities during the summer, the residents at Carsington & Wessington Mews in Allestree wanted to get prepared for the coming months and be able to host more residents at their garden parties. They successfully applied to the Dolly Smith Fund for a set of outdoor tables and chairs so they can continue to organise these events.
Bank Court, Derby
Here we have another group of residents benefitting from a welcoming outdoor space that they regularly enjoy, just needing some finishing touches to help make it even better. The Dolly Smith Fund awarded a grant to by a parasol and base for those sunny days, and a new kettle. Never underestimate the importance of a good cuppa!
Western Close, Ashby de la Zouch
The residents at Western Close have been an active group keen to carry out activities for some time now, however they have found it difficult at times to have regular meetings as there is no communal lounge on site. In response to this, they asked the Dolly Smith Fund to consider a request for funding for room hire. A local venue was found at a reasonable cost and we are pleased to say that the group are now meeting on a monthly basis and are planning a range of activities and events.
Well done to all of our groups who have been supported by The Dolly Smith Fund. For more information or to apply to for funding visit the Dolly Smith page in the Community section.
