Latest forum update

Every two months, the customer engagement team holds a forum at The Derby Conference Centre and invites colleagues from Derwent Living or its contractors to speak to residents about the work they do.

In March the Forum was attended by Derwent Living’s Tenancy Services Administration Officer, Ruth Chisnall, who delivered a presentation on our Decant Policy.

A decant is when Derwent Living temporarily transfer customers to another place to live, usually during intensive works on a property or after an incident such as a house fire.

You can read more about the Decant policy on page 10.

Also at the Forum was Derwent Living’s gas repairs contractor, Vinshire Plumbing and Heating. They were there to talk about what they do and how they do it.

Local to Derby, Vinshire has been operating in the East Midlands for 29 years. They now have 129 employees fulfilling gas servicing and maintenance contracts, from back office administrators to Gas Safe qualified engineers and operatives.

One of the services Vinshire perform for Derwent Living is the annual gas safety checks.

These are completed on a 10 month cycle, rather than the 12 months enforced by the housing regulator.

During the presentation, Vinshire staff explained how important it is to allow ID carrying operatives into your property to carry out gas safety checks, and went into detail about the process which takes place if access isn’t granted.

It was a great presentation, so many thanks to the Vinshire team for coming along and chatting to residents.

There was also a Forum meeting in May, which was attended by Healthwatch Derby and two of Derwent Living’s tenancy services team members, Adem Mahmoud and Simon Hill.

Healthwatch was at the Forum to talk about the work they do and how people can make the most of their services. They work to help local people get the bestcare services. It’s an independent consumer champion created to gather and represent the views of the public.

Adem and Simon gave a presentation about drug awareness, talking to residents about what powers Derwent Living has to deal with drug use and how the organisation works with the police to tackle it.

The next Forum meeting is on Thursday 26 July at the Derby Conference Centre on London Road, with topics still to be announced.

It begins at 10am, with arrival from 9.30am. The presentations end at 12pm, when lunch is provided.

Transport can be arranged for you where appropriate and travel expenses are paid.
