Tasty leftovers

Leftover Christmas food can be turned into tasty, inexpensive meals, to use after Christmas. Just make sure you to cool the food at room temperature, cover it and pop it in the fridge or freezer within one to two hours.

You can slice leftover cooked meat like turkey and freeze it in smaller portions so you defrost only what you need later.

When you want to use frozen leftovers defrost them in the fridge overnight or use the defrost setting on the microwave if you have one.

Make sure leftovers are reheated until they are steaming hot, all the way through.

You can find lots of recipes for leftover meat and veg on the love food hate waste website: www.lovefoodhatewaste.com

The Food Safety Standards website has useful information on preparing and cooking your Christmas dinner: www.food.gov.uk/safety-hygiene/christmas/

You can avoid wasting food and money by making a meal planner for over Christmas and make a list of what you need to buy. Stick to your list and avoid offers such as buy-one get -one-free unless you will use all of it.
