Fund gets people talking

An update on how the Dolly Smith fund is helping to tackle social isolation.

We launched the Dolly Smith Fund in 2018 to support community activities for our retirement living customers. It’s proved very popular and here are some of the activities funded so far.

Residents at Stirling Court, Chesterfield, applied for funding for chair based exercise classes and equipment. Using their communal lounge means more residents can get involved in the classes and socialise as well.

When Derwent Living refurbished the communal lounge at Beckitt Close, Alvaston, Derby, it became a real hub of activity with many more residents wanting to get together. The Dolly Smith Fund provided a grant to buy additional seating and a hot water dispenser to keep the tea and coffee flowing!

Residents at Western Close, Ashby de la Zouch, have been an active group for some time, however they have found it difficult to have regular meetings as there is no communal lounge. They successfully applied for funding for room hire and are now meeting on a monthly basis and planning a range of activities and events.
