Competitions and awards for customers and communities

Each year Derwent Living customers who have been supporting their neighbours or communities can be nominated for the David Proud Award or a Good Neighbour Award. We also have an annual gardening competition open to all Derwent Living customers wherever you live.

David Proud Award

Each year Derwent Living presents the David Proud Award for Outstanding Contribution to Customer Engagement to a customer who has committed their time to getting involved at Derwent Living. The award is named in honour of involved customer David Proud, who dedicated much of his life to changing services for the better and helping others in the community.

The winner of the award is usually decided upon by staff, and recognises the time and effort given by a customer to taking part in involvement activities and helping to improve services for all customers. However, if there is a customer who you feel deserves recognition for their involvement, please let us know by emailing

Good Neighbour Awards

As part of Places for People Group, each year we celebrate customers who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in our communities. The awards are a fantastic platform for us to shine the spotlight on our brilliant customers and showcase their hard work.

Do you have a good neighbour? Are there any unsung heroes in your community? Perhaps somebody has gone above and beyond the normal call of duty during these challenging times?

Whether they have provided care and support for others, are always on hand when needed, or simply been a friendly face around your neighbourhood, you can nominate them for a Good Neighbour Award.

Gardening competition

Derwent Living holds a gardening competition each year, and residents of all tenures are encouraged to take part. It doesn’t matter where you live, or how big or small your garden is: all that matters is you’re proud of it and want to share it with us.

It’s easy to enter, just take some pictures of your garden or container displays and email or post them to us at the addresses below any time before 31 August each year.

The categories

Best individual garden – for private front or back gardens; can include bedding displays, trellises or a combination of pots, beds and trellises.

Best house plant - for single or a collection of house plants; can include any plants you grow indoors including herbs.

Best container display – for single, small or large collections of pots, hanging baskets, or window boxes.

Best communal garden – for shared gardens; can include bedding displays, pots, trellises, or a combination of pots, beds and trellises.

Points are awarded for the design and general arrangement of the gardens or containers, the variety of flowers, shrubs, perennial and materials, and the general neatness and tidiness.

Judging takes place in September, with the winners announced in the autumn issue of Derwent Life magazine.

Please send us a selection of photos showing your beautiful garden or containers at their best. You can send your photos by email to or post them to:  Gardening Competition, Derwent Living, 1 Centro Place, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8RF.

Please include your name, address, a contact telephone number or email address and the category you are entering. Entries must reach us by 31 August.
