Residents at Derwent Living’s Norbury Court in Allestree were given the gift of song this festive season, when children from Lawn Primary School performed a special Christmas concert.
More than 25 children aged seven to ten-years-old visited the scheme for people over 55 to perform a variety of Christmas carols and bring festive cheer to the local community.
Sandy Bailey, resident manager at Derwent Living Norbury Court said: “This is the sixth year we’ve held a Christmas concert at Norbury Court and it’s always really well received by the residents here. Many of our residents are disabled or are vulnerable and events like this really help them feel integrated in the community. The children are always so enthusiastic and sweet that you can’t but smile as you watch them singing.
“As well as the Christmas concert, we hold regular coffee mornings and events for Norbury Court residents to ensure they feel part of the local community and have the opportunity to socialise with their neighbours.”
Resident, Jennifer White, said: “It is fantastic to see the children come here to sing; being around young people makes you feel young!”
Music Lead at Lawn Primary School, Sally Levesley, said: “We’ve been doing this for six years and it is an important part of our community calendar. It’s a nice thing to do, we enjoy doing it and we love to sing!”
There are currently 33 retired residents at Norbury Court. For more information about Norbury Court and flats available call 01332 644 114.
