The annual David Proud prize is awarded to an individual or group that has made an outstanding contribution to the local community and made a real difference to the day-to-day lives of their neighbours.

Steven, who was nominated for the award by fellow Derwent Living residents for his long-term dedication to community involvement and his selflessness in supporting a blind neighbour, said:
“Receiving the David Proud Award came as quite a surprise and honour to me. Since becoming a resident with Derwent Living about fifteen years ago, I have taken advantage of many of the resident involvement schemes that are on offer and enjoyed every single one.

“Derwent Living, in my mind, offers some very interesting groups for residents to become involved with and it’s just an added bonus to receive the award.”

Steven is an active member of resident panels, committees, forums and focus groups as well as being a regular contributor to the Derwent Living customer magazine; Derwent Life. He is also a ‘Green Inspector’; a volunteer helping to ensure that the grounds maintenance teams working for Derwent Living are achieving consistently high standards and holding them to account if they aren’t.

The Littleover local is also a member of an independent complaints panel, which won two awards last year, and helps arbitrate customer complaints about Derwent Living services.

Mitchell Allseybrook, resident involvement manager at Derwent Living, said: “Steven is one of the most dedicated involved residents that we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He cares about making sure that Derwent Living customers are getting the best value for money, the best services and the best out of their tenancies with Derwent Living.

“The work that volunteers like Steven do is incredibly important, helping us to push our standards as high as possible and questioning us if things go wrong. We can’t thank Steven enough for his years of service to the staff and residents of Derwent Living.”

As well as keeping the David Proud Award trophy for 12 months, Steven also won £50 worth of gift vouchers and a written commendation signed by the company’s assistant director of housing, Lynn Clayton.
