“Let us have your memories”… that’s the call from housing provider Derwent Living which is asking local people and businesses for photographs and information about the organisation.

Derwent Living is to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. There will be a year-long celebration of the organisation – and there are plans to put together a ‘history’ book featuring images and stories.

Derwent Living, which started out in a small office in The Strand in Derby in 1964 with just a couple of employees, now employs around 750 staff across its group – and manages 20,000 properties across the Midlands, South Yorkshire and the South East.

The organisation moved from The Strand in the late sixties to offices on Iron Gate and then onto Phoenix Street in 1985 – before moving to modern offices in Pride Park in 2003.

Now Derwent Living staff are gearing up for their 50th anniversary celebration in 2014 and gathering information and photographs – but they are seeking help from local people who may have their own memories.

Marketing and digital media manager Steve Atkin said: “Derwent Living started out from humble beginnings in a small office in an estate agency. The organisation has grown and developed over the years and now we have thousands of properties all over the region.

“Despite this, we are still very much a local organisation with our roots in Derby. We have lots of information to include in a special anniversary book about the organisation where we will be looking at the company’s history, and events of the day, but we would love to fill in the gaps.

“If anyone has photographs of our early properties, for example, or memories they have of moving into our houses, we would love to hear from them. We would also like to hear from former employees of Derwent Living who may have worked with us in the early 1970s and 80s.”

If you have any information you would like to pass on, please contact Steve Atkin at Derwent Living by emailing:
