Derwent Living’s Oxcroft Lane scheme in Bolsover has been included in Inside Housing’s Top 50 UK Affordable Housing Developments 2013 list. The redevelopment of 20 defective bungalows to create 15 new bungalows and 20 new houses was done in partnership with Bolsover District Council and Kier Partnership Homes.
The development team at Derwent Living secured £2.2 million funding from the Homes and Communities Agency for the £3.8 million project. A thorough consultation was organised by the partners with existing residents including two home owners who were able to give their opinion on the redevelopment.
With the building work now complete the previous tenants and home owners are settled in their new homes alongside new neighbours and the 29 rented properties are now owned and managed by Derwent Living.
Samantha Veal, who heads the development team at Derwent Living, said: “We are delighted that this development has made it into Inside Housing’s top 50.
“This was a challenging project as it involved temporarily rehousing the existing residents and great sensitivity was needed as it involved the demolition of some homes. The development looks fantastic and it is rewarding to see the residents settled in their new homes.”
To be included in Inside Housing’s Top 50 UK Affordable Housing Developments list, a panel of judges looks for affordable and social housing projects that really stand out. The judges take into consideration funding, design, employment, land, planning, sustainability and views of the residents.
