Derwent Living has launched a fund for its older customers, to honour the remarkable life of a resident who sadly died earlier this year.
Dolly Smith passed away in March, at the grand age of 107. Derwent Living’s oldest resident and a lifelong Derby County fan, Dolly was a well-known, popular and very active member of her community.
To celebrate her legacy, Derwent Living has launched the Dolly Smith Fund, a small grant fund open to its retirement living customers.
The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to community activities or initiatives aimed at tackling isolation, and promoting community interaction at Derwent Living’s retirement schemes.
Grants will be awarded by a panel made up of involved customers and staff members from the housing association.
Derwent Living’s customer engagement manager Mitch Allseybrook said: “Social isolation is sadly all too common and can really affect people’s quality of life, especially as they get older. We want to encourage our retirement living customers to support and befriend each other. The Dolly Smith fund will help our customers arrange inclusive activities to create stronger communities.”
