TWO Derwent Living employees received the ultimate haircut – all in the name of charity.
Paul Rymer and Simon Cooke ‘braved the shave’ in front of more than 20 spectators, as part of their fundraising efforts for causes close to their hearts. The pair aims to raise over £800 for Alzheimer’s Society and the neonatal unit at Royal Derby Hospital, after both organisations supported Paul and Simon through difficult times.
“I haven’t had my hair cut for well over six months, so it feels really strange now that I’m bald!” said Simon Cooke, complaints officer at Derwent Living.
“I wanted to raise money for the neonatal intensive care unit at the Royal Derby Hospital because they did such a good job of looking after my little boy when he was born prematurely. He was tiny, and the staff provided fantastic care for him and brilliant support to us. I’m really thankful for the all of the generous donations we’ve received so far for this worthwhile cause.”
Paul Rymer, mobile community officer at Derwent Living, said: “Raising money for the Alzheimer’s society is a no brainer for me. Sadly, my dad has Alzheimer’s and the charity has been an amazing support for him and my family.
“The support from colleagues at Derwent Living has been great, it was brilliant hosting the shave at the offices and my colleagues have been complimenting my new shaved look – although I’m not quite so sure!”
The shave took place at Derwent’s offices in Pride Park. Derwent Living owns and manages around 35,000 properties across the UK and has recently joined the Places for People Group of companies as a subsidiary organisation.
