Ashbourne residents are settling into their new homes which have been built on the site of a former airfield on the outskirts of the town.
Derbyshire housing provider, Derwent Living, developed the Wellington Fields scheme, in conjunction with housebuilder Miller Homes East Midlands, to provide 65 affordable properties; 50 for let and 15 for sale as shared ownership.
While the Wellington Fields development is not expected to be complete until spring 2013, eager families have already started moving in to the already finished properties on the site.
Mum-of-two, Adelle Ratcliffe, moved into her new three bedroom property in August, she said: “I’m delighted with my new property, it’s the ideal family home. The house offers great space and the layout and modern finish works well for my family.
“The house is also in a really convenient location – just 20 minutes’ walk from the school and nursery that my children Bethany (seven) and Max (three) attend. There are shops nearby and a bus into Ashbourne town centre.
“The staff at Derwent Living have really helped me settle into my new home and have given me practical financial advice which I have found really useful.”
Derwent Living is a not-for-profit organisation providing affordable living to suit a wide range of lifestyles. Formed in 1964, Derwent Living manages more than 15,000 properties in the Midlands, South Yorkshire and South East.
Steve McDonough, housing director at Derwent Living, said: “This is one of the first schemes underway using funds from the 2011-2015 Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) Affordable Homes Programme. The aim of the programme is to increase the supply of new affordable homes in England over the next four years.
“I’m pleased that Adelle, Bethany and Max, along with many other families, have begun to move into the finished homes at the Wellington Fields development in Ashbourne. We have made fantastic progress on this site and I am confident that all of the homes will be occupied as soon as the project is completed next year.”
Paul Walters, regional sales manager for Miller Homes in the East Midlands, added: “It’s always rewarding to welcome the first residents onto any scheme that we’ve had an involvement in.
“The provision of affordable housing is vital for many familes and individuals across the region and we’re pleased to have worked alongside Derwent Living to bring a greater degree of choice to people in Ashbourne and the surrounding area.”
