Derwent Living customer Emma Beardmore has been honoured at a national awards ceremony for her care and thoughtfulness towards her neighbours.
Emma, from Littleover, Derby, was nominated for a Good Neighbour Award for always putting others first and looking out for the neighbourhood. Emma helps other residents to put out their bins, keeps an eye on their houses and is always positive and smiling. Her neighbour described Emma as being ‘one of the best neighbours she’s ever had’.
In her nomination Emma’s neighbour said: “I think Emma deserves this award as she is a fabulous neighbour. She goes through so much every day, but still is positive and gives me a smile every time I see her. She looks out for the neighbourhood and kept an eye on my house while I was in hospital. She put my bins out if I have forgotten and is just such a boost to be around. No matter what is happening in her life…she always puts others first and is one if the best neighbours I've ever had!”
Emma said: “It was such a surprise and an overwhelming experience to be nominated and receive this lovely award. I’m so lucky to have such fantastic neighbours, we always look out for each other, support each other and help out wherever we can.
“I think it’s the little things people do in their communities that make the world a better place. It’s been wonderful to hear such fantastic stories today and I’m really grateful to Places for People for making it such a special day for everyone.”
Keith Johnson, from Kilburn, Maureen McKeown from Derby and Jayne Hicks from Ashby De La Zouch also won awards for the support, advice and help they provide to their neighbours.
Emma, Keith, Maureen and Jayne were among 37 customers from across the Places for People Group to receive Good Neighbour Awards at a special lunch held in York. Derwent Living joined the Places for People Group in 2016.
Peter McCormack, Chief Executive of Derwent Living, said “It’s a great privilege to hear so many good neighbour stories. Thank you to everyone who took time to nominate their neighbours and a very big thank you to the Good Neighbours who take time to help others in their community.”
The awards celebrate the commitment and positive impact that residents have on their local community and neighbours’ daily lives and were hosted by Group Chief Executive David Cowans.
David said: “It is always an honour to host the Good Neighbour Awards, which allow us to celebrate and say thank you for the extraordinary contributions and selfless acts of people living in our neighbourhoods.
“All of the nominees put forward are truly inspirational, dedicating their time and efforts to make a difference to their communities and neighbour’s lives. The fact that these individuals don’t realise what they do is special makes them all the more deserving of our appreciation. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful people living in our communities.”
